During my 10th standard, quite often I used to visit the nearby Airport just to get a glimpse of the flying bird on the run way. Quite a beauty to watch, and not so easy to board and watch the spectacular city look like a colony of Ants( as depicted in movies). Say it mediocre roots or never had a necessity or acrophobia, whatsoever this means of transport is a true discovery since 19th century.
Mangalore's Mishap is one such incident which serious worries the Airline industry adding the nail in the coffin. Such technical faults should be avoided and must stop the mundane blame game between the airport authorities and the aircraft manufactures at these accidents. The 158 death toll further adds to the count of many innocent lives lost in various air excursions around the globe. Lets not forget , this incident, the worst in a decade caused because of poor runway;absence of safety buffer zone and methods to handle by the cockpit.Experts express their opinion on the safety measures which were never followed and will not be followed even after such disasters reminds us the brute reality we live in. Rather then arguing and looking for the black box to investigate further, the government should invest more in Aviation and give more pilot training in near future.
Interestingly i have read an article, that India has a shortage of around 2000 full time pilots and around 6000 ATC crew in next 5 years. Instead of recruiting these fresh hands, we simply rely on retired Airforce and foreign pilots to handle our birds. Air India should not only reform itself to withstand the competitive private carriers but only stand as a beacon of the country in these times not at the expense of saving few crores in Insurance bills. So before the smoke from the debris dies, lets hope these deaths wont go in vain and will be heard....
