Since last week, rains not only brought relief but also caused lot of damage to thousands of farmers in general. The crop is ready for harvest within a month and this cyclone flooded acres of agricultural land across southern India. My Dad (Working in Irrigation Department) had few sleepless nights regarding the fate of numerous overflowing canals and rising water levels in dams under his purview. Normally the reservoirs gates are opened to release the water to canals in need of cultivation on request of farmers in that region. Now those requests were answered by the rain god himself , but his love is more than we ask for.. These rains do bring hope and sometimes turn violent robbing the earnings of these hardworking farmers.
Here in India we have a blame game on every issue, so for this loss of crop i would show my finger at the visiting US president Obama . Just kidding though, but seriously our folks at weather stations should have passed this info of a developing Cyclone early to prepare ourselves. The ones who are affected by such calamities are those i wish to serve in near future. The farmers borrow money to do cultivation and such rains leave behind an useless crop. Upon this unable to repay the loans and support their families, farmers commit suicides in shame. In India, people suffer both for drought or floods as they bring misery owing to its large geography and irony is the buck stops at the helpless rural farmer. I don't curse the rains for the aftermath destruction but if we can plug money into irrigation projects, this situation would not repeat itself. IF not even a 10 mm rainfall in future can scare our survival.
Well, right now its raining since 10 hours and i was under siege at my house! And looking for an umbrella i penned this down(couldn't find ) so i will go out to buy some eggs getting wet in the rain. Wish i had some company en route to the supermarket..
